that lightheaded feeling I tend to get when I walk into City Bakery. There’s the warm chocolate churning, and the homemade marshmallows stacked quietly on the end of the counter, the pastries smiling up at me, the bowls of beautiful salads and perfect soups…then of course, the waft of fresh…
Somebody stop them. I’m not sure if there is really anything better in the world than their crispy, buttery, salty shell enclosing the warm chewy center on a freezing day. Its definitely one of those things in life that makes everything OK. – at least for the life of the divine thing, which tends to be short when I’m eating it.

a delicious lunch from the nearly perfect Delicatessen as well as some fascinating and beautiful Japanese treats from our delightful guests. Candied mushroom anyone?

another delightful birthday lunch with Amy at Salt.
lemon water, pink salt and salmon and wine, white wood, truffled mushrooms, lavender pastry crust, earl grey ice cream. come on!
always a good spot to pick up edible manhattan too.

(and drinking) a great open air, mid-summer night meal at the smart and unpretentious Spitzer’s Corner last night. It turns out that no matter how many eateries in this city choose to go for the inside-of-a-barn-look, I’m still a sucker for it every time. Here, as a plug for the approach, its wearing remarkably well. There’s also the added joy of the ubiquitous but perfect gun-metal Tolix Stool and the rare and beautiful (and personal favorite) Miguel Milá M68 lamp. Keep up the good work kids. There are some connections her visually with AXE, another good one.

about this insanely great little operation from my neighbor,

who, incidentally has a jewelery collection for fall 09 that I saw last night which is seriously off the hook.
Sunday Suppers is so incredibly great! I can’t wait to go. It makes me think of going out to rainy Bainbridge for long amazing dinners @ Kurtwood Farms. [I am also a COMPLETE sucker for this photography. Its doin' me in.]
