Remembering seeing these paintings for the first time as a child and how they made me feel.

Exhilarated!

They seem to conjure up  the sensory experience of how taffeta feels and the way oil paint smells at exactly the same time…then there’s the light, and the dancing, and the incredible ease and grace of these vibrant living scenes. It still melts my brain.

I also remember thinking — ‘AND he’s American…’
